Week 4 Post 2

One website that I like to frequent is Olderbrother. While this website features out of my price range clothes, we all know it can be fun to dream. Olderbrother's website is a complete experience. From the way the webpage loads, they way products are displayed, and the way items are added to you car, Olderbrother makes shopping with them a complete experiences. Olderbrother's website is styled, but not cluttered, interactive, but not glitchy, and simple, but not boring.

Understanding the concept of 'less is more' older brother uses single images to guide you in the direction you want to go, or allows you to bypass the home page with a pull out menu on the side. Ultimately I believe the branding keeps me coming back, while they are ethical and stylish, that would mean nothing without a clean and easy website. Sometimes the graphics on their pages interact too much with scrolling, and I would like to see a way for those graphics to add movement but not clutter to their page.

Another website I enjoy is SkillShare. Skillshare uses organized thumbnails to direct customers where they want to go. Their menus are easy to find and easy to navigate. Once in a lesson plan, Skillshare breaks down the content of the video in a sidebar with each step of the process. Visually, I believe skillshare could lighten up their website. Because there is so much varying color on their page, their header could be lightened up and simplified to help form cohesion and not clash with the images below.

While browsing templates, I struggled to find one that spoke to me. I made a list and prioritized the things I wanted. I wanted a clean design and I wanted the colors to speak to me. To help me decide what colors to use, I decided to go through my photos for inspiration. I found a photo I took and created a color story from the photo. I pulled dark greens form the greenhouse, light grays from the gravel, and used a shade of brown for highlight. Throughout my blog I used a few variations of greens to try and provide a little depth. I believe when it comes to personal and business every social media platform has useful tools for different needs. Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook all have features that allow consumers to reach the businesses  Regarding personal use, I think all social media platforms are made to be used for personal use and all platforms focuses on a different aspect of life for people to share. I want to consider what platform is geared better towards person use in terms of businesses and consumers. I believe twitter is the most satisfactory way for consumers to be heard and considered by businesses. Twitter allows consumers to start a dialogue directly with businesses and is the best platform to expect a response. I used to run a childcare center and I remember going to a conference for childcare employees and the whole conference started off with the idea of story telling. We are story telling people and we understand lessons and ideas through stories. So the best way to connect to an audience is through storytelling. Likeable Social Media pointed out that formerly very expensive, story telling is now relatively free. Storytelling is a powerful way to allow customers to feel a strong emotional connection with your company. A personal story can be captivating and get people to listen to what a company has to say. By focusing on the brand, the customer, and the employee, a business can always have a story to tell. A personal touch and story in a blogpost may not always be the best route to take though.
